How Secure Country Living UK explains the limited technical data associated with operating this website.
1. Who is responsible for this website?
Secure Country Living UK is the public-facing name of this independent, non-commercial website project operated in England. For the limited personal information described in this notice, the website operator determines why that information is used and is the data controller.

This address is only for data-protection rights and privacy concerns. It is not a general enquiry, security-advice, consultancy or emergency contact route.
2. What you can use without giving us personal details
You do not need an account to read the website, use the 25-point security check or download SCL resources. The security check is designed to run in your browser so that your answers and score are not intentionally sent to SCL. Answers clear when you refresh or leave the page.
SCL does not provide user accounts, public submission forms, newsletter sign-up, comments, personalised recommendations or paid services.
3. Information you provide directly
The only direct contact route published by SCL is the privacy-only email address above. If you use it, SCL will receive the information you choose to include, such as your email address, name and the content of your message.
Privacy correspondence is used only to respond to the request, meet data-protection obligations, keep an appropriate record of compliance where necessary, or establish, exercise or defend legal rights. Do not send alarm codes, passwords, key-safe codes, tracker credentials, medical information or unnecessary property-security details.
4. Website hosting, security and technical information
The website is delivered through Cloudflare. As part of providing HTTPS, routing, caching, availability, abuse prevention and security, Cloudflare can process technical request and network information such as IP addresses, request URLs, timestamps, browser or protocol information and security events.
SCL's legitimate interest is to operate a secure, reliable website, understand basic service performance and prevent misuse. SCL does not use this technical information to create advertising profiles or to make decisions about individual visitors.
5. Minimal analytics
SCL keeps analytics deliberately limited. The site does not embed Google Analytics, advertising pixels, remarketing tags or behavioural-marketing tools.
SCL may use aggregate request, performance and security statistics made available by Cloudflare, and Google Search Console reports about how pages appear in Google Search. Search Console reporting includes aggregated information such as impressions, clicks, queries, countries, devices and page performance; it does not require SCL to place a Google Analytics tracking tag on the site.
Analytics are used only to understand whether the site is functioning, which public resources are useful and where technical or content improvements may be needed.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
SCL does not intentionally set optional advertising, profiling or marketing cookies and does not use browser storage to build visitor profiles.
Cloudflare may use strictly necessary cookies or similar security mechanisms where required to provide the service, protect the website, manage abuse or maintain security. These are not used by SCL for behavioural advertising.
If SCL later introduces any non-essential storage or access technology that requires consent or an objection mechanism, this notice and the site's controls will be updated before that use begins.
7. Downloads
SCL does not require registration before a resource is downloaded. Requests for PDFs or spreadsheets may still appear in ordinary infrastructure, security or aggregate request logs handled through Cloudflare. SCL does not create a named profile of what an individual downloads.
8. Lawful bases
- Legitimate interests: operating, securing, maintaining and understanding the basic performance of a free public-information website, provided those interests are not overridden by an individual's rights.
- Legal obligation: where processing is necessary to respond to a valid data-protection rights request or comply with applicable law.
- Legal claims: where information must be retained or used to establish, exercise or defend legal rights.
9. Who information may be shared with
- Cloudflare, as website infrastructure, security and delivery provider.
- Email/service providers, only where needed to receive and respond to a message sent to the privacy-only address.
- Professional advisers, regulators, courts or public authorities where disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to a lawful request, protect rights or address serious harm.
SCL does not sell visitor information, provide it to advertisers or use it for direct marketing.
10. Retention
SCL aims to keep personal information only for as long as it is reasonably needed for the purpose for which it was processed. Routine privacy correspondence is reviewed for deletion when the matter is closed and no continuing legal or compliance reason requires retention. Technical and security information retained within third-party infrastructure is subject to the relevant provider's service configuration and retention controls.
11. International processing
Cloudflare and other infrastructure providers may operate internationally. Where UK personal information is transferred outside the United Kingdom, the relevant provider and/or controller must use an applicable lawful transfer mechanism and safeguards.
12. Your data-protection rights
Depending on the circumstances and lawful basis, you may have rights including access, correction, erasure, restriction and objection. To raise a privacy concern or exercise a data-protection right in relation to SCL, email SecurecountrylivingUK@proton.me.
You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO): ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/.
13. Security
Reasonable technical and organisational measures are used to protect the website and the limited information handled through it. No internet service can promise absolute security. Do not send sensitive site-security information through the privacy contact route unless it is genuinely necessary for a privacy matter.
14. Changes to this notice
This notice will be reviewed when the website, service providers or relevant legal requirements change. New uses of personal information will be reflected here before they are introduced where required.
